June’s month-end results are in, based on data from more than 450 automotive rooftops across the UK, and the market delivered a positive finish to the first half of the year. With one additional trading day compared to June 2025, dealers had more opportunity to generate revenue and maximise capacity. The results suggest many businesses made the most of it, particularly in aftersales.
New car sales finished June up 2.6% year on year, continuing the sector’s steady recovery.
Despite ongoing economic pressures, demand remained resilient, helping retailers build momentum as they move towards the important September registration period.
Used car sales were down 1.1% year on year, highlighting the continued pressure facing the market.
While the decline is relatively small, it reflects ongoing price sensitivity among buyers and the importance of maintaining the right stock mix and pricing strategy. For many retailers, speed to market remains a key differentiator in driving used vehicle performance.
One of June's strongest results came from aftersales, with hours sold increasing by 5.3% year on year.
Following a softer May, workshops clearly benefited from the additional trading day and stronger utilisation levels. Dealers that proactively filled diary space and maintained customer engagement were well positioned to convert that extra capacity into revenue.
Parts sales remained the standout performer, rising 8.6% year on year.
Strong workshop activity and healthy trade demand helped drive another month of impressive growth, reinforcing the importance of the parts department as a key contributor to dealership profitability.
June's results show a market that remains resilient. While used car sales continue to face headwinds, growth across new vehicles, aftersales and parts highlights where the strongest opportunities currently lie.
As the industry enters the second half of the year, the focus will be on maintaining workshop utilisation, maximising parts revenue and ensuring retail teams are ready to capitalise on upcoming registration activity.
